BVB want Donyell Malen - Most valuable PSV player among the best in the Eredivisie

Jadon Sancho has not been the same since the rumors that heavily linked him with a move to Manchester United. Nonetheless, Borussia Dortmund have long-term plans with Sancho, and unless a club offers more than €100 million next summer, the winger is expected to stay. But according to Sport Bild (Wednesday print issue), BVB are also prepared for the worst-case as the Black and Yellows have kept a close eye on PSV star Donyell Malen. 

The 21-year-old forward has been in fantastic form this season. "Donyell is speedy and very dangerous in front of goal," PSV teammate Mario Götze said to Sport Bild. "Whenever he has a chance, he usually scores. He is still very young but has a lot of talent." This season Malen has scored 12 goals and three assists in 18 games across all competitions—according to Wyscout, the striker leads the Eredivisie with 7.47 expected goals. 

Malen can play various positions, but under Roger Schmidt, has been primarily used as one of two central forwards in a 4-2-2-2 formation. But Malen is a flexible forward and could easily adapt to a system in which Erling Haaland is the primary number 9. What stands out is Malen's tendency to be active in the opponent's penalty box. Among Eredivisie players, only Ajax's Dušan Tadić had more touches in the box—Malen (60) had eight touches less than the Ajax playmaker. 

Expensive Malen - Haaland's agent an asset?

Fast, with a high work rate and the ability to play high upfront, Malen would be a perfect player for BVB. But he is also expensive. His €25 million market value makes him the most valuable PSV player. But Dortmund might have one important asset in agent Mino Raiola. The Dutch-Italian super-agent also counts Haaland among his clients and has a positive relationship with the Black and Yellows.
