D.C. United sign Paredes replacement Smith - Sounders receive $750,000 GAM

Major League Soccer side D.C. United have found their replacement for super talent Kevin Paredes whose transfer to VfL Wolfsburg is all but official. On Thursday, the Seattle Sounders announced that they have traded Brad Smith to D.C. United in exchange for $750,000 in General Allocation Money. The Sounders will also receive 10% of any future transfer not involving an MLS side. 

“Brad brings a wealth of top-flight experience to our club," D.C. United president of soccer operations Dave Kasper said in a club statement. "From his time at the highest level in England with Liverpool FC and AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League to his experience on the international stage for Australia, we will be getting a player who knows what it takes to compete at the top. He’s been an elite attacking fullback in our league since he joined the Sounders in 2018, and his track record and winning pedigree will make an immediate impact on our squad.”

A 23-times Australian national team player (no goals), Smith has been an important part of the Sounders organization since he joined from Bournemouth on a free transfer in 2020. The left-back, who can also play further up the field has managed three goals and ten assists in 76 games for the Sounders across all competitions.
