St Erme 5 Newbridge Ath 2:

Derby day at Castle fields brought together local rivals both looking for a win to bring a bit of Christmas cheer in Trelawny League Division 5.

The Saints took a while to get going as Newbridge had some good chances to break the deadlock, but it was the home team who took the lead halfway through the first half when Mark Mitchell's free kick was headed into the back of the net by stand-in captain Elliott Jolly.

Both teams had half chances after this, but the score remained 1-0 to the home side at the break.

St Erme came out the stronger team in the second half and scored their second goal of the game as a Langmaid kick was flicked on by Jolly giving Terry Campbell the chance to run through and placed the ball into the bottom corner.

Newbridge pulled a goal back but Jolly made the score 3-1 almost immediately when he headed an excellent cross by Vencislav Velikov at the far post.

Newbridge hit back with a penalty before St Erme scored again when Andrew Mitchell picked up the ball outside the Newbridge area, riding a tackle he burst past the static defence and placed his shot past the onrushing keeper.

Captain Jolly completed the scoring shortly with his hat trick goal after a mistake by the Newbridge keeper.

Man of the match: Elliott Jolly, a hat trick and two assists for the in form striker, who never gave the Newbridge defence a moment's rest.

St Erme made the points safe when a fantastic diving header from ANDY MITCHELL found the back of the net form a corner with VENCISLAV VELIKOV completing the scoring after some great play from the excellent COVENEY.
