Mykhaylo Mudryk to Arsenal FC?

Arsenal are maintaining contact with the entourage of Mykhaylo Mudryk because they “love” the Shakhtar Donetsk winger, Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

Mudryk has been on Arsenal’s radar for a few months. His form this season has only increased his status as an appealing target. He has contributed to as many goals as the number of games he has played in all competitions this season.

Indeed, with 10 goals and eight assists from 18 appearances, Mudryk has been converting his potential into talent for the here and now.

Arsenal want to make the most of his ability by bringing him to the Emirates Stadium. He could add to a young core of players that Mikel Arteta has nurtured into a table-topping Premier League side.

However, the Gunners will have to invest heavily to sign the 21-year-old. Shakhtar Donetsk have been warning them that Mudryk is no worse than Jack Grealish, who cost Manchester City a nine-figure sum in 2021.

Still, Arsenal are refusing to lose sight of Mudryk as a potential target. They need attacking reinforcements after Gabriel Jesus suffered an injury while with Brazil at the World Cup.

Mainly a left winger, Mudryk could help cover while Jesus is unavailable and then complement him once he is back.



According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are keeping up their pursuit of Mudryk by making contact with those close to him.

Speaking to Caught Offside, Romano explained exactly where Arsenal are at in the process of targeting Mudryk. In addition, the reporter gave his prediction of how Arteta might use him if he does end up in north London.

Romano said: “I can reveal that Arsenal are considering a new signing because of the Gabriel Jesus injury being more serious than initially expected.

“However, Folarin Balogun is expected to continue his loan season at Reims, as things stand.

“The Mykhaylo Mudryk situation is still the same. Arsenal are in contact with people close to the deal and they love the player, but there’s no official bid to Shakhtar yet.

“If he joins, it would be interesting to see if he could be deployed as a direct replacement for Jesus, or if Arteta would move Gabriel Martinelli into the middle. Either way, it would be a good problem to have!”

Martinelli has been starring on the left wing for Arsenal so far this season. Indeed, he started all 14 of their Premier League matches before the break for the World Cup.

But he can also operate centrally, which might happen more often while Jesus is on the sidelines. Alternatively, Arteta could put his faith in Eddie Nketiah up front and keep Martinelli out wide.

In that case, Mudryk – who likes to play on the left and cut inside onto his right foot – would add healthy competition to the squad.

With the amount of money Arsenal might have to invest in him, he could come with expectations of regular gametime. Hence, it would give Arteta a dilemma as to how to find the best combination of players.

As Romano claims, though, it could be a good problem for him to approach. First of all, though, Arsenal will have to convince Shakhtar to sell up.

Mudryk is under contract until the end of 2026.

Das sind aber alles sehr schön weit hergeholte Annahmen. Selbst bei der aktuell vorherrschenden bittersten Personalnot hat Mudryk bei Shakhtar nie etwas anderes als LA gespielt. Paar Versuche ihn als falschen Neuner o. ä. einzusetzen gab´s mal früher in Testspielen, aber da ist nix draus geworden. In Profispielen hat er laut der Statistik insgesamt 45 Minuten als OM gespielt plus ein paar Zerquetschte als RA. Also es würde mich sehr wundern, wenn Arsenal irgendwas außer LA mit ihm planen sollte, wie es der gute Fabrizio Romano berichtet.
